New Garage & Garden Room, Albourne, Hassocks:
Overview: Proposed new outbuilding in the garden of an existing dwelling.
Details: Featuring a timber frame built off a low-level masonry wall, this small-scale structure replicated that of a traditional barn. Internally, the ceiling was vaulted, via the specification of a ridge beam, to allow ample head height for a mezzanine floor.
The combination of shrinkable soils and mature trees on-site led to a detailed review of the ground conditions to ensure the foundations were appropriately designed to accommodate ground movement.
